Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose Blue Roots Speech & Language?
Blue Roots Speech & Language is built upon a passion and love for helping children and adolescents with speech and language delays/disorders. We pride ourselves in pursuing the most current therapy techniques, research, and trainings that specifically benefit your child and contribute to a work ethic that reflects our utmost integrity. Our approach to therapy to increase the success of our clients has always been a three-pronged approach involving parents, the child, and other professionals. This triad creates a powerful team when we work together effectively in the best interest of your child. Blue Roots Speech & Language strives to make it as convenient possible for you as we travel to your child’s home, daycare, or private school. Providing activities for your child to work on at home to encourage carryover of skills is an essential part of our therapy. We also believe it is important to stay in touch with parents through various methods such as home notes and text messages. We truly love what we do and are excited to meet you!
How do I know if my child is developing typically?
There are several areas of development to be aware of including expressive language (how your child is talking), receptive language (what your child is understanding), articulation (speech sounds), social skills (how your child interacts with you and others), and cognitive skills (these skills involves problem solving, memory, thinking and remembering). It is important to keep in mind that every child is an individual.
Listed below, are links to more information about typical speech/language development:
What should I expect at the initial evaluation?
At the initial evaluation, it is completely normal for you and your child to feel a little nervous or anxious. This is why Blue Roots Speech & Language will come to the comfort of your own home to do the assessment. Each evaluation is different and catered towards your child’s areas of concern; therefore, an evaluation can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 ½ hours. Don’t worry, they can take breaks as needed! When the evaluation is completed, the Speech-Language Pathologist will give you a brief verbal overview of the assessment. A written report will follow and will be reviewed at the first session if speech-language therapy is recommended. If Speech-Language therapy is not recommended, you will still receive a copy of the evaluation report either via mail or in person.
How long will my child need speech and language services?
Every child is unique and learns new tasks at different rates. A time frame for Speech-Language Therapy is difficult to estimate as it is highly dependent on the child’s needs, the amount of time spent on goals outside of speech-language therapy, and other factors such as attention and motivation. Do not despair, every child has the ability to make progress and to improve their communication!
What do I need to do before my first evaluation?
I am happy you asked! Click here to access the forms needed for your initial evaluation. If you could kindly print them out, complete them, and have them ready prior to your evaluation, that would be great. Thank you and we cannot wait to meet you! Please call or email if you have any questions.
What if I refer Blue Roots Speech and Language to a friend?
If you refer a friend to Blue Roots Speech & Language and they decide that an evaluation will benefit their child and this evaluation has taken place, you will receive $25 off of your next therapy session!
How does Insurance/Payments work?
Insurance can be a complicated thing as I am sure we have all experienced at one point or another. At Blue Roots Speech & Language we provide Super Bills to families, and help them bill their insurance companies to seek reimbursement for their Speech-Language Services. Each insurance company requires submission of these Super Bills slightly differently; however, we will do our best to help you find the correct information, so you can get reimbursed for services. We do accept all credit cards, cash, and checks.
